This cold email got me a Research Internship at Cambridge and LSE!

Ever since I began posting about my experiences, I've received lots of DMs about how one can apply for these opportunities. Here’s how I applied (and the cold email template I used):

I applied by cold emailing the lab managers/professors of the labs where I wanted to work.

I had to send about 50 cold emails to research labs before getting selected at Cambridge.

It took me 6 months but I tried my best and did it :D

Here are the components of my cold email:

  1. It begins with a brief introduction (Who are you?)

  2. Then you proceed to describe your interest in the organization (Which projects of the organization interest you?)

  3. Further, you write about your experience and skills (How would you be able to help the organization and how does your previous work experience relate to the organization's work?)

  4. Lastly, you mention a Call to Action (What further steps do you want the organization to take with regards to a collaboration with you?)

It's best to request the organization for a short online meeting to discuss potential internship opportunities

Remember to keep a cold email short (within 250 words) and maintain brevity.
