July 2021: I didn’t know that undergrads, esp Indians, did “proper” academic research
July 2022: I became a research intern at Cambridge. Here's how I did it:
- Pre-July 2021: I had no idea that undergrads did proper “research”. Thankfully, Instagram put Anshita Singh's (PhD student at UVA, Former RA at Columbia, IIT, Harvard) account in my suggestions
- July 2021: I started looking for labs and emailing them but with no luck
- Oct 2021: I began my first independent research with immense support from my supervisor and co-author through this independent research platform we have at the Department of Psychology, Lady Shri Ram College for Women
- Dec 2021: I got myself a mentor from Project SHORT, who could not have been more helpful with my RA application material
- Jan 2022: I began emailing labs again (more proactively this time) and got my first Research Assistant position at Ashoka University
- Feb 2022: I got my second Research Intern position at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE)
- June 2022: I began my second independent research, co-authored with the supervisor of my first independent research
- July 2022: I began my third Research Intern position at the University of Cambridge where I interned for a year
- May to July 2023: The Cambridge internship ended, I graduated with BA Psych Hons from Lady Shri Ram College For Women, and began Consultant roles at Behavioral Science firms
- Future: I’d like my work to be a mix of behavior, data, design, and social media. Mayhaps even doing comedy about biases, heuristics, and how to outwit them (edutainment? :P).
